      Psalms 22, Mark 15:22-47, Mark 16:1-8 (English-NIV)

      Psalms 22

      1
Psalm 22 For the director of music. To [the tune of] "The Doe of the Morning." A psalm of David.
      1
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning?
      2
O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, and am not silent.
      3
Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the praise of Israel. [1]
      4
In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them.
      5
They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.
      6
But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people.
      7
All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads:
      8
"He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him."
      9
Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you even at my mother's breast.
      10
From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother's womb you have been my God.
      11
Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.
      12
Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me.
      13
Roaring lions tearing their prey open their mouths wide against me.
      14
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me.
      15
My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me [2] in the dust of death.
      16
Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced [3] my hands and my feet.
      17
I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me.
      18
They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.
      19
But you, O LORD, be not far off; O my Strength, come quickly to help me.
      20
Deliver my life from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dogs.
      21
Rescue me from the mouth of the lions; save [4] me from the horns of the wild oxen.
      22
I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise you.
      23
You who fear the LORD, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!
      24
For he has not despised or disdained the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help.
      25
From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly; before those who fear you [5] will I fulfill my vows.
      26
The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the LORD will praise him-- may your hearts live forever!
      27
All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,
      28
for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations.
      29
All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him-- those who cannot keep themselves alive.
      30
Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord.
      31
They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn-- for he has done it.

      Mark 15

      22
They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means The Place of the Skull).
      23
Then they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.
      24
And they crucified him. Dividing up his clothes, they cast lots to see what each would get.
      25
It was the third hour when they crucified him.
      26
The written notice of the charge against him read: THE KING OF THE JEWS.
      27
They crucified two robbers with him, one on his right and one on his left. [6]
      29
Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, "So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,
      30
come down from the cross and save yourself!"
      31
In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves. "He saved others," they said, "but he can't save himself!
      32
Let this Christ, [7] this King of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe." Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
      33
At the sixth hour darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour.
      34
And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, <"Eloi, Eloi, lama> "--which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" [8]
      35
When some of those standing near heard this, they said, "Listen, he's calling Elijah."
      36
One man ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a stick, and offered it to Jesus to drink. "Now leave him alone. Let's see if Elijah comes to take him down," he said.
      37
With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.
      38
The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
      39
And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, heard his cry and [9] saw how he died, he said, "Surely this man was the Son [10] of God!"
      40
Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome.
      41
In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there.
      42
It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath). So as evening approached,
      43
Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus' body.
      44
Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died.
      45
When he learned from the centurion that it was so, he gave the body to Joseph.
      46
So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.
      47
Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where he was laid.

      Mark 16

      1
When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus' body.
      2
Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb
      3
and they asked each other, "Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?"
      4
But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away.
      5
As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.
      6
"Don't be alarmed," he said. "You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.
      7
But go, tell his disciples and Peter, `He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.'"
      8
Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.
